In brief: Look for seizure

Eeg allows detection of seizures, even if there is no clinically evident seizure on examination.
Patients in status are often sedated, and the EEG allows detection of ongoing seizure activity when it would be difficult or impossible to see any other way. Only once the seizures are under control can we start pulling back on sedation.

In brief: Eeg monitoring

Eeg monitoring follows the spikes of the seizures, so that there can be a monitoring of the status itself and what medications used may reduce the spike activity.
