In brief: Treatment not cure
There are medications available for essential tremor, such as Inderal (propranolol) and mysoline.
Alcohol will suppress the tremors. Taking medication, if tolerated will prevent the tremors, as long as the medication continues to be taken.

Avoid caffeine. Essential tremor can be treated with deep brain stimulator in severe cases refractory to medication.

It is unknown to neuroscientist how to prevent as we still do not know what causes it.

Although there is no known way to prevent essential tremor, there are multiple effective treatments available, ranging from medications such as propranolol and primidone to surgery in severe cases (known as deep brain stimulation).

In brief: Cause not known
The "essential" in essential tremor means we do not know the cause.
It is just tremor, with no other identifiable problem -- essentially just the tremor!
