Improvement can take hours to days. Another determinant is the use of a chronic anti-inflammatory. Generally therapeutic response is quicker if the asthmatic is taking daily inhaled corticosteroid (ics), rather than periodic medication. Except in intermitttent asthma ICS therapy should be daily, not prn.
