In brief: Pp depression
The baby blues, and in worsening cases, post-partum depression, is relatively common.
Some studies have shown the "blues" occurring in half of all pregnancies, and true post-partum depression in 20% of women. "ppd" is real and treatable, and in some states, it is mandatory to discuss with moms before they go home from the hospital. If you feel the blues are worsening, talk to your OB right away.

In brief: Hormone drops
The hormone levels during pregnancy are quite high.
Once the baby is born, your hormones plummet. This sudden drop in hormones can trigger emotional swings and sadness, called the baby blues. It helps to have people with you like your close family.
