How do you remove a thick splinter?

In brief: Soak it first

First, soak the area in warm water for about 15 minutes to loosen it up.
Then, sterilize a needle either with a flame (let it cool off) or with alcohol. Then, try and coax the splinter out with the needle. After if comes out, clean the area with soap and water and bandage to prevent infection. If this fails, you may need to seek some medical assistance. Good luck.
