In brief: Forgetfulness

Although the initial symptoms of alzheimer can vary.
The most common initial symptom is impairment of recall or forgetfulness. Impairment of so called 'executive functions' like organizing and planning can also be seen. One may also experience trouble with with directions especially while driving. Problems recognizing familiar people or relatives can be a symptom later on in the disease.
