In brief: Pink eye
Pink eye is usually due to viruses and is spread by contact on touched items like toys and doorknobs.
The virus can last for several weeks on these surfaces if not cleaned or sterilized. If someone in you environment has pinkeye, anything touched should be cleaned preferably with alcohol wipes.
