In brief: Memory and mood

Ms effects the white matter of the brain which is essentially the interconnected wiring of the different parts of the brain.
This can cause mood effects such as depression and mania and cognitive effects such as memory loss, disorganization and mental slowness.

In brief: Demyelination

Complex, tip of iceberg.
Ms causes loss of myelin over nerve processes, and often axonal transection. Brain signals are disrupted, and symptoms occur with eventual disability. Brain atrophy can be seen, and both white and grey matter are involved. Result is cognitive loss, fatigue, pain, imbalance, incoordination, weakness, loss of vision, double vision, etc. No cure but control available.
