What is a normal iron/hematocrit level for an 18 month old? My son's was 26, and the doctor said that it was low, and that we have to get tests.

In brief: Normal hct 36

The average hematocrit level @ 18m is 36% with 33% being the low end of normal.
Since blood formation is very dependent on available iron, the hemaglobin or hematocrit are often used as a simple screening test of iron availability. Normal iron level infants is a range of 40-100 micrograms/deciliter.
