Infected nerve endings on a tooth. Will that heal itself or will you have to get the root canal?

In brief: Tooth Nerves

Unfortunately, infected tooth nerves will not heal themselves.
When the nerves are infected it usually means that the nerve is dead or dieing. You can control the infection for a short time with a series of antibiotics. However, this will only control the infection temporarily. You will either need a root canal or you will need to remove your tooth. I would try to save your tooth if you can.

In brief: Root Canal usually

You need a correct diagnosis.
Assuming the tooth is sensitive, this may be due to deep decay (a filling will cure it), exposed root sensitivity (certain agents can be applied to seal the exposure) or an infected pulp (which requires root canal therapy or extraction. None of these (with possible exception of root sensitivity) will heal themselves.
