Does topical estriol get converted into estradiol in women treated for menopause? Is estriol any safer than estradiol? Mammogram/breast exam is normal

In brief: NO; Yes

Estriol does not convert to other Estrogens in the body.
It is safer because it's the weakest of the Estrogens and has no link to breast cancer. Studies suggest thta estriol has a protective effect. If used incorrectly, though, it can trigger hot flashes.

Estriol does not control menopause symptoms very well, as it is very weak. Estradiol is best for symptoms control.

In brief: Estrogen in menopaus

There are several types of Estrogens available to treat menopausal symptoms.
The benefit of topical estrogen is you avoid passage through the liver. The conversion of estrogen in the liver can lead to increase cholesterol, blood pressure, risk of blood clots. Estrogen is safe , however, depending on your health history may not be. If you have your uterus you should be on progesterone.
