In brief: NOT usually

Prostatitis (infection/inflammation of prostate) can cause a dramatic increase in psa (prostate specific antigen).
Sometimes orchitis (inflammation of testicle=orchid?) is associated with prostatitis so psa could be elevated because of the possible spread of infection but if orchitis is the only diagnosis then psa should be normal. Hope he is better soon!

In brief: Infx

Infx makes psa rise; any urinary tract infx means don't check psa until treated.
