Can radiation treatment and chemotherapy cure esophageal cancer?

Sometimes. The two main types of esophageal cancer are adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Cure with chemotherapy and radiation alone is much more likely with squamous cell carcinoma. The exact cure rate is dependent on the stage of the cancer, but cure with just chemotherapy and radiation is rare.
Unlikely. Cancer of the esophagus that has invaded is seldom cured, and surgery is the usual means. There is talk of occasional cures by very aggressive radiotherapy in people who cannot be operated. Chemotherapy is an adjunctive or palliative treatment for this cruel illness. Early cancer or precancer that may be seen in a barrett's esophagus is often cured easily. Good luck and thanks for asking.
