In brief: Don't panic
Anyone confronted by a person having a grand mal (tonic clonic) seizure should keep in mind several principles.
First, almost all seizures of this type are self-limited and will not go beyond two minutes. They are scary to watch but knowing this can be very reassuring. Next, call for help (911) and try to keep the area around the person clear. Restraining the person is not recommended.

In brief: First aide
Get the person on a flat surface.
Make sure they are breathing. Do not restrict their movements, they are involuntary and you can hurt the person. If their mouth is open, sweep for any foreign bodies or food to prevent aspiration. If their mouth is closed, do not try to pry it open. Turn the person on his side with the head slightly facing downward. If it lasts more than 2-3 min. call 911
