If you have not been exercisng for a while having muscle soreness a day after an activity is not unusual.
Give your body time to recover ( a day or two) and you should be ok after that. If you have any severe pain with exercise, talk to your doctor. Also doing some light warm ups before the activity and stretching activities after the activity can help. A trainer can help.
