In brief: It is safe.
Depending on one's itinerary, per exposure Rabies Vaccine can be appropriate.

In brief: Safe but
If going on a short trip < 2-3 weeks, only reasons to get Rabies Vaccine is (& this are reasonable) if getting bitten or scratched would require evacuation to location where rabies globulin is available.
Having rabies series allows you to skip rabies globulin & just have more rabies vaccine--but you still need more attention and vaccines if bitten. On short trip, careful avoidance might be enough.
