I have a question about partial dentures? How do they fit?

In brief: To remaining teeth

Removable partial dentures are clipped onto and around remaining teeth.
..If impressions are done well they should have a snug fit and stay in place when eating. The main issue is that they can be bulky and they need to be cleansed daily to avoid bacterial buildup. Also, they can temporarily affect your taste.

In brief: Clasp retention

A partial denture utilizes the remaining teeth in that arch to stabilize the partial.
Implants can also be used to stabilize a removable partial denture. The use of implants can help improve the esthetics of the partial denture by eliminating the need for clasps that may be visible when you smile or talk. A partial denture should be comfortable to wear but it will collect food around it.

In brief: Multiple ways...

Partial dentures fit by close contact with adjacent teeth, by having components rest on tooth structure, and by having components wrap around teeth.
Partial dentures are also supported by the gums. Moreover, they can be supported and retained by dental implants under the partial denture. Partial dentures can be a very nice replacement for natural teeth when needed.

In brief: Partial Dentures

Partial dentures rest on the ridges of your jaw to help stabilize them. In addition, they have metal or flexible clasps that wrap around and hug on to some of the remaining teeth to help prevent them from moving or dislodging during eating and talking.

I am not a fan of partial dentures long term for they cause undo stress on the connecting teeth and wear on the underlying bone.

I fully agree with Dr. Bolding. Fixed permanent bridges, when possible, are a much better option in most cases, and the best replacement alternative are implant supported restorations, which rival natural healthy teeth.
