In brief: Not much
Many patients often try to use ear coning with candle etc in order to facilitate or remove wax.
I would not recommend this and instead recommend that one not put anything including qtips into ears and just keep ears clean from the outside. And if you need removal of wax from ear see doctor to have ears cleaned with warm water or syringing.

Ear coning or use of an ear candle does not work to remove ear canal wax. And there is a real risk of burns.
