How much weight can you put on a leg after major knee surgery?

It depends. This depends how long after the surgery this is being done, and how well you've healed. Usually after knee surgery the knee is flexed and extended to get back range of motion. Then if ambulation is attempted, it is first done with crutches, so weight is gradually introduced. So it would be best to put little weight on it to start, then more until no crutches are needed, then try slowly to walk.

One concern is that if you don't move the knee asap you may lose range of motion at the knee, and not only negate the goals of the operation in the first place but your knees may get worse.
