In brief: Good question!
As i understand it, the right-wing groups calling themselves "pro-life", have consistently opposed use of embryonic stem cells from abortuses or stored fertilized eggs from ivf and family planning centers, as an extrapolation of their stance on many issues that touch upon the definition of life.

It is a religious, not a scientific question. Now that embryonic stem cells have proved spectacularly successful in treating wet macular degeneration, the commonest form of blindness in the developed world, it's my understanding that even the Republican presidential candidate no longer actively opposes their use.
