In brief: Always diet and

Exercise is best answer, then statins.
Statins have certain toxicities and unpleasantness and dosage can be reduced somewhat with the triglyceride lowering drug vascepa which also lowers LDL cholesterol.

In brief: LDL Not Cholesterol

Go hf/lc foods, loose body fat, exercise, statins + chol.
Absorption inhibitors are most effective. See: nusi.Org, dietdoctor.Com, etc. Cholesterol is a fat molecule made by every cell, ldl-c promoted for ?$ but is not correct issue ; only estimated (t chol - hdl-c - 1/5 trig). Best track actual lipoprotein values by nmr: LDL is always in nmol/l (best <700), HDL in µmol/l (best >10).
