Because cholesterol synthesis is maximal around midnight if your sleep pattern is normal, and maximal onset of action with Simvastatin is a few hours after taking it, there is a few percentage points benefit for taking it in the evening.
Long acting statins (atorvastatin & rosuvastatin) are less impacted by time of day.
