Why shouldn't you lie down after a meal? Is that because the stomach can reverse the food to the esphagos, and create a problem in breathing?

In brief: See below

Lying down after a meal, especialy one with fried/fatty or spicy foods or chocolate or caffeine, can relax the ring muscle at the base of the esophagus & allow acid to reflux up the esophagus, sometimes into the mouth & throat.
Repeated episodes can inflame the esophagus & potentially lead to cancer. Refluxed food can also be aspirated into the lungs—> aspiration pneumonia. Even worse if overweig.
