What are some of the complications of chemotherapy after splenectomy?

OPSS, aka... ...Overwhelming post-splenectomy sepsis. The spleen is a filter that removes old blood cells and certain (encapsulated) bacteria from the bloodstream. Therefore, people without a spleen are prone to certain infections (although there are vaccines for these). Chemotherapy inherently weakens the immune system's response to infection. Therefore, the 2 combined may increase infection risk.
