In brief: Numbness
The carpal tunnel is a space in the wrist through which the median nerve passes.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is pressure on that nerve causing numbness in the thumb, index, and long fingers. Symptoms often include tingling and pain in the fingers, wrist and arm.

In brief: Median nerve compres
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition where the median nerve in the wrist becomes compressed.
This is due to an increase in pressure below the transverse carpal ligament in the wrist. With the increase in pressure in this compartment, the median nerve suffers. People can develop numbness and tingling affecting the thumb, index, middle and part of ring finger.

In brief: Nerve compression.
Carpal tunnel syndrome (cts) is compression of the median nerve at the wrist.
Symptoms include numbness/tingling in the thumb, index, long and ring fingers. Symptoms may be worse at night and progress to pain. Oral/injectable steroids, night splints and therapy are good treatments. If symptoms persist, open or endoscopic carpal tunnel release will relieve symptoms, before nerve damage occurs.

In brief: Pinching
The median nerve runs through the wrist in a closed tunnel with eleven tendons.
When the space becomes limited, the median nerve can become compressed causing pain and/or numbness in the first three digits of the hand.
