the bacterial biome of the mouth is established in infancy because saliva is communicable. It continues to evolve and change through adulthood as new bacteria are introduced. Some bacteria are particularly pathogenic and aggressive for some people with particular susceptablity due either to genetic make-up or immune system suppression. This means the disease can present itself at any age.
