Chondro means cartilage.
Malacia is softening. This is used to describe softening of cartilage which is basically arthritis. There are grades of arthritis (1-4). Arthroscopic grading: 1 softening, 2 cartilage loss less than 50% thickness, 3 greater than 50% thickness and grade 4 full cartilage loss.
