Will taking aygestin (norethindrone) keep me from having my period?

Good chance so.. It is a med belong to the progestin class and one of the intended/side effect of use is amenorrhea--lack of period/mentrual flow. Some women may have some breakthrough bleeding while on this med..Often light flow and 'unpredictable" ask your questions/express your concern when you are prescribed medication. Good luck.

What do you suggest if I switched from taking ortho tricyclene for 7 years to micronor (norethindrone). My period is 6 days late. Should I worry yet?

Probably normal. There is probably nothing to worry about. The cycles with micronor (norethindrone) can be irregular. I would probably check a pregnancy test if you don't have some bleeding in the next week. Read more...

Don't fret. Resumption of menses/withdrawal bleeding after being on OCPs (oral contraceptive pills), especially progesterone based ones like the mini-pill can be erratic. Remember that this particular OCP works primarily by suppressing ovulation like most OCPs, but, at the local level, thins out the uterine lining. This means it may take a while to get it built up again and get your uterus back on track. Read more...

Breakthrough bleed. Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. Read more...

I started my period. I am not currently taking birth control, but I have norethindrone 5mg from before. Can I take norethindrone to stop the bleeding?

Sure, may not work. Once you have started your regular period, it is difficult to stop it. Hormones such as norethindrone are used to alleviate heavy irregular bleeding, but in higher doses. This too, may not always work, or it may take some time to work. Read more...
