Synthroid (thyroxine) or Armour Thyroid for hypothyriodism?

Levothyroxine. Levothyroxine, generic form of synthroid, has many advantages over armour thyroid. The armour product has significant batch to batch variation and has T3 (liothyronine) in it. Since the T3 (liothyronine) portion of armour has a very quick onset and short duration, it can wreak havoc with the ability to effectively treat hypothyroidism. Until there is a long-acting form of T3 (liothyronine) available, stick to levothyroxine.
Thyroid. I personally do not use dedicated cow thyroid (armour). It is not a pure form and has unusual absorption. Synthetic thyroxine(synthroid) is a much purer and better option.

Hypothyroidism. Our bodies are amazing and dynamic structures. Disease processes come to an equilibrium with treatment modalities that are instituted. The thyroid in particular can wax and wane in its functionality. Just because 1 dose of your Armour was instituted doesn't mean that that's going to be your dose forever. Thyroidologist. An endocrinologist or thyroidologist would be best qualified to evaluate and treat you. Low dose T3 (liothyronine) The symptoms of hypothyroidism can also be found in other conditions so further evaluation would be in order if TSH is normal. That being said, the addition of a low dose of liothyronine (T3) sometimes results in an improved sense of well being in hypothyroid patients. Read more...

How can I speed up my metabolism when I don't have a thyroid? Do I have a metabolism? I'm taking Armour Thyroid and levoxyl (thyroxine). I'm eating right and walking everday but I can't seem to lose weight.

You . You could look to see if you're leptin resistant. You could assess this with a reverse T3 (liothyronine) test and if it is elevated you like are leptin resistant. If you follow some simple rules how to eat you will be able to activate your uncoupling proteins. Humans have five total but the ones most important for weight loss are ucp 3 and ucp1. Ucp1 is activated by temperature. This is why elite athletes sometime will train in cold environments to shred weight. Mike phelps used this technique to win his gold medals. Sherpa use this too but too when they guide people to everest peak but they offset it by eat straight lard during their ascent to keep their weights up. Take a look at my leptin rx to help you start. Ucp3 is the major one that allows humans to burn calories freely uncoupled from energy metabolism so you can lose weight. Read more...

Doctor recommended Armour Thyroid for borderline TSH saying it's better than synthroid, (thyroxine) why?

Armour has bothT4+T3. Synthroid (thyroxine) contains t4; however, Armour Thyroid contains T3 and t4. Thus, when a person switches to armour, the fact that T3 is approximately four times as potent as T4 must be taken into account. Read more...
Not better. Armour thyroid is derived from pork thyroid. Both T3 and T4 (amounts vary some from pill to pill) are in the drug. Fortunately, even with thyroid dysfunction, the body still makes the enzyme which converts T4 to T3 ( the more active hormone). Taking additional T3 in a pill is of no benefit and can be excessive causing over activity. Studies have found no benefit to armour vs synthroid (thyroxine) (t4). Read more...
