In brief: Polymyositis (PM)

Pm can lead to difficult swallowing that can then lead to food or gastric contents entering the lungs called "aspiration".
This may result in a chemical or bacterial pneumonia. In addition, pm can result in weaker breathing muscles; in severe cases this can result in respiratory arrest requiring mechanical ventiltion.
