In brief: Anaphylaxis
The most serious reaction to peanut is called anaphylaxis.
While many allergic reactions remain localized in your skin or nose or mouth, in anaphylaxis, your entire body is involved. This can cause a drop in blood pressure or swelling in the throat that can be fatal. Epinephrine acts to raise your blood pressure and this is how it saves lives in anaphylaxis.

If you are deathly allergic to peanuts you can experience anaphylaxis which is a multi-organ system life threatening reaction.
