In brief: Well
After any surgery, it takes time to heal from it.
Most people with ACL repair surgeries will take 3-4 months to feel like the knee feels stable and stronger as the graft sets in. It can take up to 9 months to fully heal. Following your doctor's orders are key and when rehab starts follow it to a T. You will do just fine. If you are concerned talk to your doctor. Check Regenexx.Com

In brief: 4 to 6 months
For everyday activities and light aerobic exercise, most people are quite functional in 4 months.
For high impact activities, especially pivoting, jumping or twisting sports, quick starts and stops, or activities that require quick changes in direction, the recovery can take a minimum of 6 months for the new acl to be strong enough. It also takes that long to strengthen the thigh and leg muscles.

In brief: Not variable
There are 2 considerations for recovery after acl reconstruction.
First is the immediate surgery recovery, which can vary depending on surgeon and whether your own tendon is used. Generally you can be walking normally somewhere between 1 and 6 weeks. More importantly, the graft does not reincorporate until 6-8 months for your own and 8-9 months for donor graft. You cannot be pivoting before then.
