Critical care nurse. A critical care nurse takes care of patients who are in the intensive care unit. These are the sickest patients in the hospital and have conditions that impair their life functions such as breathing, kidney function, blood pressure control and heart function.
A lot! Monitor the patient's vital signs and assess for any changes. Administer medications and check dosages and interactions. Clean the patient inside and out; turn the patient. Monitor life saving equipment. Change dressings sterilely and control all tubes, lines and catheters. Communicate with all other members of the care team. Provide comfort to the patient and their families and keep them informed.
