In brief: Reactive airways

Bronchial asthma (commonly referred to as just asthma) is a medical condition in which the airways have both inflammation (excess mucus and swelling and cells present in airways) and episodic airway constriction or narrowing.
Both of these are features of asthma. Albuterol treats the narrowed airways, but other medications such as inhaled steroids are necessary to control the airway inflammation.
