In brief: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) use
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) effects typically last 6-8 hrs.
However; some persons can be adversely effected for much longer. To be safe, don't drink within 24 hrs of using any sedating antihistamine. All antihistamines are potentially sedating, indivdual senstivities to side-effects vary greatly.

In brief: How much alcohol?
The combination of alcohol and antihistamines can result in increased sedation, and you may be impaired even if your alcohol level does not reach the legal limit with both drugs on board.
I would wait at least 12 hours to make sure the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is no longer playing any role. This is if you are talking about social drinking (1-2 drinks). If we are talking getting drunk, you increase your risks.
