In brief: Postpartum sex

The risk with having early postpartum sex is that the cervix has not completely changed back to normal and can introduce infection into the uterus, or cause bleeding.

In brief: Sex after baby

Sexual intercourse after delivery traditionally is set at 6 weeks after delivery.
The reasons are to prevent infection, allow the vagina to heal, and prevent sutures (if placed) to be opened. However, some women feel they are ready for intercourse before that time. Every patient is different. If sutures were placed, best to await the 6 week check up. Adding a lubricant may be helpful also.
