In brief: Yes
The boated feeling following a tummy is usually the result of several things: 1.
Tightening of the abdominal wall (which then makes any bloating more noticeable) 2. Side effects of medications given around the time of surgery 3. Hormonal changes associated with the trauma of the surgery itself. The good news is that most bloating resolves quickly and has no untoward effects on your result.

In brief: Tightened abdomen
During an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck the abdominal muscles are tightened.
This creates less intra-abdominal space which makes it easier to feel bloated. Symptoms should improve with time.

In brief: It cqn be.
Liposuction and a tummy tuck together often produces a picture patients refer to as "swell hell.
" this swelling can take a while to subside and is one of the reasons I do tummy tuck surgery without liposuction.

In brief: Yes
Abdominoplasty involves a recovery period of 10 to 14 days longer than most plastic surgical procedures.
Initial discomfort and decreased mobility is typical.

In brief: Absolutely!
Swelling & fluid retention is very common after surgery.
In fact you may actually weigh more after surgery than prior to, surgery due to the fluid. Do not worry unless it is localized and creates a "fluid wave" in which case it may be a sign of seroma. Diuretics have been suggested but not typically prescribed. Swelling may persist in lower abdomen for months and lymphatic massage exercise may help.

In brief: Perhaps
A number of feelings may accompany a tummy tuck, with or without liposuction.
Most people feel tight and have incisional soreness. The tightness is both in the skin and the muscle-let latter usually produces more discomfort. Plus, most patients are using narcotics for the discomfort which can cause constipation and result in a bloated feeling. Best to stay hydrated and use stool softenenrs.

In brief: Swelling after lipo
Swelling is expected after abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and liposuction in the first few weeks and continued improvement thereafter. Compression garments tend to help reduce the swelling initially for several weeks.
Even after coolsculpting by zeltiq, a noninvasive fat reduction technique that freezes and kills the fat cells, there can be swelling although not as much as the surgical procedures.

In brief: Yes
There are multiple reasons for bloating after an abdominoplasty.
Narcotic pain medications can cause constipation and bloating. Also, there is a significant amount of swelling of the abdomen that occurs after a tummy tuck and takes months to go away. However, if you have any nausea or vomiting after a tummy tuck, you should see your plastic surgeon.

In addition, bloating can simply be a side effect of undergoing anesthesia or medication.
It is recommended to walk frequently after surgery to promote circulation and prevent complications. Should bloating or constipation persist after a few days, make sure you keep your surgeon informed.
