Family Medicine
In brief: Mainly pain and rash
As with any viral infection, herpes (hsv) often starts with achiness, fever, headache.
The skin can also hurt, itch or feel tingly before any rash is seen. After a few days, the classic rash appears - grouped blisters/vesicles on a red base. These usually are very painful. The rash lasts 7-10 days, and is contagious as long as any sores are present. Then the virus goes to sleep and can reactivate.
