In brief: Non-drug options

Nondrug options for treating arthritic joints include joint rest, ice/cold packs or moist heat packs, good footwear, avoidance of additional 'mileage' on affected joints, weight loss to decrease joint load, & physical therapy to strengthen joint support structures.
Tylenol (acetaminophen) is effective for pain (keep it to under 4000 mg daily, preferably less). Topical meds can help: zostrix, biofreeze, etc.
