I am on extended breastfeeding, is it safe to get steroid shots on my hurting knees? Showed some wear and arthritis on my xrays - please advise. Thank yo

Okay. Steroids injections into the knee done no more frequently than every three months are generally safe during breastfeeding. Very little steroid gets into your breast milk. Oral medications for osteoarthritis need to be okayed by your OB or the doctor prescribing them. I prefer to advocate weight loss or weight control, modest exercise such as walking as long as it doesn't worsen the knee pain.
Drug will be in milk. Your infant may exhibit signs of adrenocorticosteroid ("cortisone") toxicity with a large enough and/or frequent enough injections. Exercise caution! unless your condition is life-threatening, i would generally advixe against it.
