My daughter has been found to have a heart defect? I am so angry, how could they have missed it on ultrasounds?

In brief: Normal response

It is certainly normal for you to feel angry when you get bad news.
The fact is ultrasounds vary in sensitivity with the training of the operator & interpreter & the machine used for the procedures. Some us's can verify position of baby, placenta & confirm dates but little more, some are so detailed you see almost everything.Still some defects will only be spotted after birth when blood flow changes.

In brief: Heart Defects

There are various types of defects abd can differ by size, location, embryological origin, and physiology (what they cause).
For example, in utero the baby does not use its lungs as your placenta supplies its beeds. So there are bypass vessels for blood to get around lungs. Certain lesions like tapvr may not be detected in utero and are critical after birth. Please speak with your ped cardiologist.
