I have an unusually fast heart rate for long periods of time. What is wrong?

Many possibilities. What do you mean by "unusually fast hr"? Causes of sinus (normal) tachycardia include:fever, pain, anxiety, fatigue, exercise, dehydration, caffeine, asthma inhalers, many other medicines and drugs, hemorrhage, anemia, excess thyroid hormone; then there are abnormal rhythms such as atrial fibrillation or flutter, pat/svt, wpw, and VT - there are many other possibilities. You need an ekg!

Arrhythmia. This could be anemia, dehydration, or low blood pressure causing a fast rhythm; it could also be a supraventricular tachycardia causing you to feel dizzy and faint. Please talk to your doctor first, and if all checks out, you may need a holter or event monitor. If you have a fast rhythm you may need to see a cardiologist or a cardiac electrophysiologist. Just come off depo, moods are all over the place, fast heart rate, keep collapsing and feeling sick all the time, also headaches! What is wrong with me?

Collapsing? If you are really passing out or dizzy, especially with a rapid heart rate you need to get seen now at an ER. This is not related to stopping Depo, unless your periods are so heavy you are very anemic. If your heart rate is over 120, with any other symptoms, fainting, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, ditto. If none of these, see your doc this week and find out what is going on. Dizziness and fast heart rate BP is 157/97. F.22yrs.120lbs. What could be wrong?

Why do I get a fast heart rate, shake, and get a little headache at random times. It does mostly happen at night but it also happens during the day.

Many possinilities. Hard to tell from here. I'd see if there is any temporal relationship to certain eating habits or food items, and relationship to specific activities? Do you ingest a lot of caffeine? Any consumption of energy drinks? Any recreational drug use? If not, I'd see a doctor and get a 30 day event recorder, a device you can activate when you have these racing spells to see if rhythm abnormal. Read more...
