Is it normal for a finger to swell after splint?

In brief: Yes, not b/c splint
Swelling after an injury to the finger is common and is due mostly to the injury, not the immobilization.
Ice, nsaid's and exersice will help decrease the swelling after being splinted. Don't be surprised if you have some residual swelling up to 6 months after injury. Sometimes swelling in the middle knuckle never goes away completely.
