In brief: Varies
Some patients will have very little discomfort, while others have quite a bit.
Overall, most patients do not have significant pain, and the worst pain occurs the first few days after the procedure and then rapidly improves.

In brief: Very sore for 2-3day
This is a very common outpatient surgical procedure.
For immediate post-operative pain control, nerve blocks are often used. When the block wears off, usually in 12-36 hours, the shoulder is very sore and narcotic pain medicine is needed. This improves greatly in 2-3 days, but soreness is common for several months after surgery.

I warn my patients that shoulder surgeries can be quite painful open or arthroscopic.
The first week can be tough. By two weeks then pain is quite manageable. However, many patients will require some use of pain medication for several weeks especially after therapy. Before surgery discuss "shoulder blocks" with anesthesiologist. It can reduce post surgical pain for upto a day or so. Good luck!

I would recommend you focus more on picking a highly experienced surgeon with a high healing rate for the surgery rather than worry too much about the initial postoperative pain.

In brief: Rotator cuff
The pain from rotator cuff repair can be moderate to severe the first week.
Usually postop pain medication can keep it under control. A nerve block may also help with pain after the surgey.
