What does a blood blister in the mouth look like? Does it break open?

In brief: Firm and purple

If you bite your lip/cheek and traumatize inside your mouth, but not enough to break open the suface of skin(mucosa) then you may develop a firm purple-colored bump.
Over time the "blood-blister" will pop and drain and should heal quickly. If it does not resolve within 7-10 days, have it checked out.
