Am taking 24hr alegra but my allergies still act up at night, so I take a Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night too?

Allergic rhinits. Instead of benadryl, (diphenhydramine) i recommend you to ask your doctor for a prescription of a nasal steroid to use once a day. Examples are flonase, nasaonex, Qnasl and nasacort. Another class of medicines your doctor can try is singulair, 10 mg, taken once a day.

I've had allergies my whole life. Currently taking flonase and 24 hr allegra in the AM and benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night. Nothing is working. What else can I do?

See an allergist. Who would examine you after taking your history, including environmental history, order or perform some tests, like allergy skin testing, and help you with your symptoms, please check or for an allergist in your area, good luck. Read more...

I have true allergy to Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (had hives when taking the dye-free for a headache.) is allegra safe for me? And would it help my allergic reactions?

Yes. Allergy to Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is rare if at all present. Allegra is quite different from Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in structure and thus should be safe for you. Make sure you are not allergic to the gelatin on the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) capsules. Whether Allegra would work for you or not is another issue but it should be no less effective than benadryl (diphenhydramine). Read more...
