The gold standard is use of moisturizers - creams or ointments not lotions.
Infrequent hand washing and baths with soap and water will also help; in place of soap, use non-soap cleansers like cetaphil. For moderate cases, one may try otc 1% Hydrocortisone ointments. For more severe cases, prescription steroids, oral or ointment form, can be prescribed by your doctor.
