Contribute? Congratulations for stopping substance abuse! i'm unclear whether you're asking if taking prescribed Ritalin (methylphenidate) contributes to your anxiety ; depression, or whether starting Ritalin (methylphenidate) would help. Either way, "overthinking" is not a reason to take any drug, including ritalin (methylphenidate). While Ritalin (methylphenidate) may still be useful for diagnosed adhd, you ; your brain need to adjust without drugs. Good luck. Read more...

Short-acting Ritalin (methylphenidate) works 20-60 min. after a dose, peaks at 1-2 hours & wears off in 3-4 hours. Irritability & anxiety are either side effects or rebound effects as dose wears off. Multiple daily doses must be taken 30 minutes before the prior dose wears off. Long- acting stimulants or non-stimulants that last 24/7 after 4-6 wks. are preferable, even for ADHD-Primarily Inattentive Type. Talk to your psychiatrist. Read more...
