In brief: Yes
A randomized, controlled study of the early start denver model, a comprehensive developmental behavioral intervention, showed, if started at <30 mos.
& continued for 2 yrs., improvement in iq, adaptive behavior & degree of autism. Aba done 25-40 hrs./wk shows qualitative improvement even in kids without dramatic improvement as a result of comorbid intellectual disability.

There are effective treatments.
Applied behavioral analysis, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. In some cases medication may help for severe aggression, hyperactivity, or even with repetitive behaviors. Risperdal is actually an fda approved medication to treat autism.
