My new born baby has discover with atrioventricular septal defect (avsd). What caused this?

Development defect. The way the heart forms depends on an intricate movements and cell signaling sometimes it just doesn't go right. Also common in infants with down syndrome.
Unknown. The heart is a very complex organ. We still do not fully understand how the normal heart develops in the fetus. We understand even less about what causes the heart to develop abnormally. There are multiple genetic and environmental factors involved. But rest assured, nothing you did caused this heart defect and nothing you could have done would have prevented it.
